We did a long hike at north-eastern Lantau at early April. This time we decide to go with the north-western Lantau to enjoy the amazing scenery that nature has bestowed upon us in this region.

The hike is divided into 4 stages:

1) Tung Chung to Tai O (11 - 12km), moderate walk
Take taxi/bus to Yat Tung Estate > Sha Lo Wan > Shan Shek Wan (the landing point of the proposed
HK-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge) > Tai O. Most of the trail is along the coast. This route might no longer be
valid once the bridge construction is commenced.

2) Tai O to Keung Shan Road (10km), strenuous hike
Tai O > Nga Ying Shan 373m > Man Cheung Po > Ling Wui Shan 490m > Keung Shan 459m > Kwun Yam
Shan 434m > Keung Shan Road (Part of the route belongs to Lantau Trail Stage 5). Quite a series of
mountainous terrain of Lantau.

3) Keung Shan Road to Ngong Ping (4km), moderate plus
Lantau Trail Stage 4 covered by plantation woodland around Shek Pik Reservoir

4) Ngong Ping to Tung Chung (4.5km), moderate walk
Downhill walk along different scattered monasteries and temples.

Total distance: approx 30km

Walking hours: 8- 9hrs

Early exit: Ending of Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3

Stores for replenishment available at: Tung Chung, Tai O & Ngong Ping

Things to bring: 3-4L water/sport drinks, self-packed lunch, energetic snacks, suntan lotion, walking pole, travel light, rain gear if necessary.

In view of the road closure and wide range of landslide occured in Lantau, particularly in Tai O, we will change the route to stay out of the devastated area. Meetup time and place remain unchanged. Most probably we will hike from Tung Chung to Discovery Bay via Mui Wo. If you plan to drop out at Mui Wo, both bus service to Tung Chung and ferry service to Central are available. I will leave the choice to you. Hope to see you all tomorrow. Cheers, Galia

Who attended?

    •  Due to landslides we changed the routing of the hike. It was a good decision and a good hike. First time use of my 15 year old Chelsea-bought umbrella without rain and for shade instead was unusual for me and I am amazed!!!! It worked so well!!!! I always enjoy the company of everyone. CHEERS!!!
    •  Wow it's really hot and humid today. The thousand steps were something under intense heat at 12 noon. I enjoyed the light breeze toward the end.

Route was changed to an easier and shorter one - from tung chung -> mui wo -> discovery bay. Enjoyed the 1000+ steps to discovery bay! It's a good day out under a nice sunshine after a week of raining. Again, Thanks to Galia, SK for organising!
